Negation

NO usually goes before the verb 

Juan es estudiante (Juan is a student)

Juan no es estudiante (Juan is not a student)

Mis padres son americanos (My parents are American)

Mis padres no son americanos (My parents are not American)

No is also DON’T/ DOESN’T

Maria tiene coche (Maria owns a car)

Maria no tiene coche (Maria doesn’t own a car)

Los chicos beben alcohol  (The boys drink alcohol)

Los chicos no beben alcohol  (The boys don’t drink alcohol)

Affirmative words and their opposites

alguien (somebody)

nadie (nobody)

algo (something)

nada (nothing)

algún (-o, -a, -os, -as) (some, something)

ningún (-o, -a, -os, -as) (no, none)

también (also)

tampoco (neither, not either)

siempre (always)

nunca (never)

jamás (never, ever)

ni . . . ni (neither . . . nor)

o . . . o (either . . . or)
